‘Celebrating three years of dedication to the Australian design community, Design Federation is hosting its inaugural event on Friday the 12th of February. In honour of the website’s dedicated readership and supporters from the local and web community, they have chosen the theme of this Chinese New Year – the year of the Tiger – to capture the spirit of creativity, courage and tenacity.
With Tiger Beer and Bogong Valley Estate Winery sponsoring drinks, be sure to arrive early so you don’t miss out. If the old worldly charm of the venue and the quirky crowd aren’t enough to peak your curiosity, Julie Doye, pop art portrait artist and newest contributor to Paris Hilton’s personal art collection will be in attendance from 7:30pm painting personal one minute portraits of guests.
Prizes and giveaways will feature throughout the night, with Design Federation’s corporate supporters Sweat-Shop Productions and iStockPhoto digging deep to make the event a fantastic occasion for all involved.’
As I mentioned the other week, my beautiful friend Shanika got married over the weekend. As her wedding had a formal dress code I decided I would design and create myself a dress to wear to the wedding. As promised here are the pictures of the dress.

I’d like to start by apologizing for the lack of posts lately but with the beginning of a new year also came a huge “To Do” list.
As I wrote in my previous post I intend to create a clothing collection this year that I’m hoping to sell on Etsy. That is one of the many design related tasks I have chosen to undertake this year.
Firstly, my beautiful friend Shanika is getting married in less than 2 weeks and as she has requested that I design and make a custom dress to wear to her wedding. I assure you there will be plenty of pictures posted of said dress after the wedding so you can all see what I designed.
Next on my “To Do” list is the Spirit of the Black Dress for LMFW. I designed a black dress over the Christmas and New Year break and have decided to construct it and enter it into the competition.
Following that I am designing and creating a custom LBD for my mum. This will be my first paid design work so I am very excited about this.
Following all this I will be creating my collection to sell on Etsy and will update you as to when that will be happening.
In the meantime I have created a group for my design work for those of you on Facebook: Amy Hungerford Designs
Also, I have not forgotten that I have promised to post final shots from the photo shoot that I was involved in back in December. Some of the photos have been made available to me but I dont want to post them until I have access to all the photos from the shoot, hopefully this will be by the end of the month.
As we all know, the end of 2009 is approaching, a lot faster than many of us would like. It’s around this time that many of us begin thinking up our “New Year Resolutions”, most of which, we don’t keep. This year I have decided to call mine goals or, as a friend suggested “New Beginning Resolutions” in the hopes that I will follow them through. One of my goals for 2010 is to create a clothing collection. In the past I have just sketched and created my designs with no rhyme or reason or consistency. So this year, in the interest of not only doing something different but also more realistic of how the industry works, I have decided to create a cohesive collection, which will require a theme, research, story/mood boards etc. As I am excited about the idea, I couldn’t wait the 2 weeks until the new year and I have already started working out theme ideas. I thought I would share with you one “moodboard” that I have put together in my spare time.
*Note: this is not the final decision/theme. It is just some inspiration for of the kind of collection I may create next year*

As you know my fashion photo shoot took place over the weekend and I have promised before AND after photos of the designs/shoot. We were told on the weekend by our fabulous photographers, that due to wedding season, they have a lot of photo editing to complete before they can do our photos. So sadly there will be no final photos available until January.
However, in the meantime, I have some behind the scenes photos taken by myself and the MUA. Enjoy.

As some of you already know (as stated in an earlier post) I am involved in a photoshoot with a Canberra Makeup Artist. The shoot is taking place this weekend and I am frantically trying to get organized this week. But I thought it might be interesting for you to see a before and after of the photoshoot. So often we see the final product of a shoot, beautiful models all dressed up in fabulous designs, but we don’t see all the work and effort and progress of the designs as they were before you have that perfect final shot. So in the interest of being different, I thought I’d post some sketches and photos of my designs that are a work in progress. Then after the photo shoot I will post the finished product – the photos from the shoot. So here for your viewing pleasure is my work before it’s finished and photographed on a beautiful model.
(keep in mind that these are unfinished designs and sketches and are not the final product)

I’d like to start this post with apologizing for my lack of blog posts lately, things have been hectic.
Firstly, I have been asked to be a part of a fashion shoot for a Canberra makeup artist. Yes, you heard right, my designs are going to be used in an actual photo shoot… my first ever so I’m pretty excited.
Next, I have entered the following competition: VRaw and LiveStyle fashion festival are giving young fashion designers the opportunity of a lifetime
And Finally a little project I would like your help for. Please vote for me in the 2threads Australian Fashion Awards.
You can vote for me in either of the following categories:
Best Fashion Blog OR Best Up and Coming Designer
Now obviously I can’t expect those of you who haven’t seen my work to vote for me in the best up and coming designer category… so, I am posting some of my sketches for you all to see. Then if you like my work all you have to do is vote for me here – 2threads Australian Fashion Awards Nominations

Recently I went to see 500 Days Of Summer and was left longing after Zooey Deschanel’s wardrobe. As much as I enjoyed the movie itself I have to say that the standout thing in the film was definitely Zooey’s character, Summer’s wardrobe. There were many incredible vintage outfits that showed the character’s classic yet quirky vintage style.

My absolute favourite (at which point in the movie I gasped and whispered: “I love that dress”) would have to be the exquisite 50s silhouette, pale blue, with an off the shoulder neckline and a full tea length skirt, vintage dress that Summer wears to Millie’s wedding. Unfortunately I haven’t been able (not for lack of trying) to find a full length picture of the gown, so this will have to suffice:

I definitely recommend seeing this film, even if only to long after the beautiful vintage fashion.
